Pawsitively Sheppey January 2024
Added 14/01/2024
Sheppey gets a bad press but it's full of pawsome things to do for you and your dog. If you don't live on the island head over on the big A249 bridge or through Iwade and take your chances on the old bridge if you're not on a clock! I quite like to watch the old bridge lift for a boat if you've got lots of time!
Part of the Saxon Shore Way runs alongside the Swale estuary under the bridge, a great dog walk Doggy Socials!
Why not try a Doggy Social! Dog Advisor Kent ambassadors Carys Canine Pet Services and Happy Paws on the island both organise Doggy Socials so you have all the choice if you have a sociable dog! Keep an eye on the Doggy What's On and like The Dog Advisor Kent on Facebook so you are the first to know of new dates as they come online!
This brother and sister loved Cockapoo Club and rolled about for an hour loving their lives! Dog-friendly Bosuns Queenborough
In the spirit of research after Cockapoo Club, Toby and I popped into Bosuns in Queenborough for a puppacino and a latte to warm us up, well me! Bosuns welcomes dogs and has drinking bowls outside and in, doggy treats, puppacinos and a Doggy Photo Board! There's lots of parking in Queenborough, we parked in the free Park Road Car Park opposite Bosuns. I may have tried out the bread pudding, it was very nice!
Bosuns is open 10-3 Monday to Saturday as at January 2024! If you've not been to Queenborough before you can explore the waterfront, choose your boat or try the Harbour Market in the summer months. Agility & Scentwork
Every week we head over to beautiful Harty on Sheppey for 1-1 Agility with Emma at Harty's K9 Services. Emma is an excellent trainer and it's mentally and physically stimulating for dog and owner we love it. You can find Harty's K9 Services on Facebook or Whatsapp the Dog Advisor and we can put you in touch. Emma also does Scentwork if that takes you or your dog's fancy!
All ears and tail! Brambledown Farm Shop
We love a pitstop at Brambledown Farm Shop on the way home from agility for fresh bread and a cheeky bun. There is also Pooches Pick n Mix which is excellent shop training for your dog(!) and a butchers, fresh fruit and veg and groceries. Brambledown have always been very supportive of mine and Nic's Dog Retreat's latest project which started with the Doggy Cafe back in September thank you Alex!
Love a Boyce's Bakery from Rainham to the island, a happy owner is a happy dog! Minster Leas Beach
I love that in Iwade we are so close to Sheppey to enjoy the beaches with the dog. In winter, beaches are unrestricted for dogs until 1st May. We enjoy Minster Leas, lots of parking along the road or in the Little Oyster Car Park at the beach hut end with The Playa and The Beach both being dog-friendly pubs.
Beaches aren't just for summer although gloves are recommended and coffee! Leysdown Beach & Neptune Cafe
Leysdown is great for the dogs. You can park in the big car park next to the Neptune Cafe which you can find on google maps. The Neptune Cafe is dog-friendly and there's even a disused bus you can go on with your dog if the weather turns on you! There is green space opposite the Neptune for a walk if you don't fancy the beach and a Boyce's Bakery in town (can you tell I'm a bakery fan!).
Leysdown with Toby and Hank the Goldador admittedly in warmer weather August 2023! Starbucks Queenborough
These reliable sources pictured below (thank you Emma) tell me Starbucks in Queenborough welcomes dogs if they are well-behaved which these gorgeous two definitely are!
You can follow American Rat Terriers UK on Facebook if you'd like to see more of their adventures!
This gorgeous pair were very well-behaved on their trip out to Starbucks at Queenborough. Carys' Canine Pet Services
Based on Sheppey, Carys and her team at Carys' Canine offer dog walking locally, home stays in the UK, pet visits and mobile dog and cat nail trims highly convenient! You can find Carys' Canine in the Doggy Directory and keep an eye on the Doggy What's On for Carys' Doggy Socials!
