My name is Syrah and my mission is to enrich the lives of pet dogs by providing a framework of activities through which dog lovers get outside and bond with their dogs.  I believe that a mentally and physically fulfilled dog makes for a happy family dog and whether you want sound, basic dog training built on a foundation of clear communication or a fun activity that will see your dog mentally and physically challenged, The Dog Squad has something for everyone.

My Puppy Club will get new dog owners off to the best start, focussing on HOW your new puppy learns and teaching you HOW to communicate clearly to set your puppy up for success.  In our six week Positive Puppy Course we lay a strong foundation for the behaviours you want to train but also explore the things your puppy needs you to get right from the start such as play, rest and appropriate socialisation.

My Sport Stream is tailored to provide something for every dog, whatever their personality, breed disposition, age or temperament! I am a scentwork geek, Gold Certified Instructor with UK Sniffer Dogs and a Trial Official and Judge with The National Nosework Association.  If I could get pet dog owners to do one activity with their dogs it would be scentwork.  Nothing gives me more joy than seeing a partnership flourish between handler and dog as they seek together to fulfil The Dog’s deepest desire.

With recent years seeing a dramatic rise of behavioural challenges in our pet dogs, I recognise that some dogs need 121 training, be that for life skills or sport skills and offer a limited number of one to ones for dogs that need focussed help.  Having been on a reactive dog journey myself, I also offer Neutrality classes as a stepping stone for dogs with big feelings, (be that fear or enthusiasm!) to experience appropriate exposure and training in a safe and structured group class where owners are supported and take steps towards their goals.

I have trained and certified under a number of umbrellas to bring you the most up to date training methods.  My dog training heroes include Leslie McDevitt, Denise Fenzi, Jo-Rosie, Pat Stuart, Glenn Cooke, Cameron Ford and Natalie Morris as well as many more. There is more than one way to train a dog, and it’s my job to support you with the strategies that will work best for you and your dog, to reach your goals.

Tasha and Doug at Doggie Explorers Kent first got into mantrailing in 2021 and found it was an outlet for their high energy cockapoo Smudge both mentally and physically, challenging and fulfilling his desire to please. Mantrailing is a dog sport inclusive for every dog including reactive dogs as dogs are worked one at a time. You can quickly get hooked, earning badges, rosettes and working your way through assessments if you and your dog would like to!

Doggie Explorers offer Mantrailing (teaching pet dogs to find 'missing' people for fun) as well as Scent Detection, Tracking and Dog Training with sessions generally in the Herne Bay, Whitstable and Faversham areas but also travel further Dover, Deal, Wye (Ashford) and even Sheppey more recently so keep an eye on their socials for dates.

Barn Hunt is fun for both dog and owner as they need to work together, as a team to complete the course and find the RAT! Using their natural instincts your dog will search for the rat in specially made tubes hidden in amongst a course of straw bales. The handler must read the dogs body language and cues to then correctly identify whether the dog has found the correct tube within the time frame.

* We do NOT use live rats and our rats are sustainably sourced from reputable food suppliers for reptiles. The dog and handler NEVER come into contact with the RAT

Come and Join the HUNT!

Keep an eye on the Doggy What's On for Kent for workshop dates as they become available.

Loose, Maidstone, Kent
Family Dogs Services is a family run business comprising of married couple Claire & John Denyer.

Our mission is to help dog owners get their training right first time and help them correct any unpredictable behaviours that occur during their dogs development.

We have both always had dogs in our families. We lost our first Black Labrador Gemma to old age.

On 1st July 2024 we lost Indy, the reason Family Dog Services exists today, her legacy lives on in everything we do.

We currently have the pleasure of owning three Black Labradors from working lines, Dude, and Rose, who have achieved their KC working gundog certificate, and Genie our youngest recruit.

Although initially we trained our working dogs as a hobby and for the joy of watching our dogs do what they were bred to do, we have, over the years become passionate and committed to dog training and behaviour on many levels.

In 2015 Family Dog Services was born. We are thrilled to be able to put our passion and knowledge to good use helping owners of varying breeds and issues with their training needs.

People are often unprepared for what is required to develop a well mannered, obedient pet, and even when you get everything right, circumstances beyond your control can give rise to challenges. For that reason we decided to learn to teach key skills that your dog should have, provide assistance and advice to enable you to correct any issues you are having and help your dogs become well mannered members of your family.

Our focus is to show you, how, through changing your own behaviour and attitude towards your dog, your dogs behaviour and attitude towards you will be rewarding. Our aim is to offer you the skills to develop a well mannered, obedient and respectful dog.

We have both advanced and further developed our knowledge and skills training alongside behavioural trainer Robert Alleyne, undergoing his instructors course, and his Canine Instructors Academy, and various work shops and seminars.

We studied with Lez Graham, author of The pet Gundog series of books and DVDs and completed the accredited Pet Gundog instructors programme with distinction.

We have attended various workshops and seminars including canine first aid, dog aggression, Tellington ttouch, Zoopharmacognosy, and studied dog training and behaviour with the CIDBT (Cambridge Institute of Dog Behaviour and Training) .

John is a level 4 certified True 2 Life International trainer, and a featured expert on the Ladies Working Dog Group .

Claire is the author of the puppy book 'The Life of Rose' (Raising puppies the family dog services way) and is a group expert, and trainer for the Ladies Working Dog Group.

Claire and John both regularly assist and lecture on Robert Alleynes 5 day residential Canine Instructors Academy course.

Husband and Wife team Claire and John established Family Dog Services based in Loose, Maidstone, Kent in 2016 and specialise in gundog training for field and fun as well as offering behaviour services, puppy foundation classes and 121s.

Canine Paws Academy was born in 2021 after Carly found her feet in the 'dog world' through dog walking.

Since then she has focused on training, working with companion dogs, working dogs & assistance dog teams. Over time great relationships were built with multiple trainers, we now have an array of classes / workshops / sports which means there is something for everyone! Wherever they are in their training journey.

Sports - Hoopers. Rally Obedience, Scent Work

WHAT IS HOOPERS?!

WHAT IS HOOPERS?!

Hoopers is fast and fluid where dogs get to negotiate a course of hoops, barrels and tunnels whilst the handler directs them at distance.

Distance handling upskills the human/canine partnership whilst 'lower impact' and generally safer by avoiding jumps, tight turns and heights. Great for junior and senior dogs as well as handlers with limited physical fitness - your dog does the hard work! Big dogs, small dogs, any breed of any age can enjoy Canine Hoopers. Come and join the fun!

This pawsitively gorgeous Collie X Golden Charlie training Hoopers at Ted’s Field, Paddock Wood with The Dog Squad Official

Canine Paws Academy and The Dog Squad Official Kings Hill offer Hoopers training but the TRAIN link on the Doggy Directory is growing all the time! The Dog Squad Official train Hoopers at Ryarsh Paw Ground.

Canine Paws Academy train Hoopers at Cliffe Woods, Upchurch and Faversham, get in touch with Carly at Canine Paws Academy to find out more and get booked on.
